Cotes Catalanes Blanc 2013 Domaine Matassa “Marguerite”

For a long time we have been fascinated by the Matassa wines from Southern Mediterranean town of Calce, a stone-through away from the Spanish border, for their dry, terroir driven, laser-focused minerality. The Cuvee Marguerite is made from Viognier and Muscat Petit Grains grown on a monastery parcel of slate soils with strong influences of the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees mountains, where monks originally planted vines over a thousand years ago. The vines here are at least 90 years old and are grown Biodynamically. Ultra low yield contributes the depth of flavors. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts in barrel and matured on lees for 10 months.
