Nicolas Joly took over the estate from his parents in 1977. With an MBA from Columbia University he quickly became a living legend as the leading pioneer of the biodynamic winemaking movement. 100% Chenin Blanc of AC Savennières on the bank of the Loire River, the Le Vieux Clos is the gateway to Nicolas Joly “work of art” in winemaking. Very low yields, usage of 20% slightly botrytised grapes (noble rot,) fermentation in barrels with 6 months of maturation and another 6 months of bottle refinement make this wine complex and firm showing aromas and flavors of honey suckle, apricots, almond skin and quince. Soft brine and sea minerality shows when first open and at colder temperatures. This wine goes on and on and on the palate. A true geeky wine.
