“I can only hope to one day craft that wine that exists only in my head. I have already found the terroir, and I have the varietal, Albariño.”
Founded in 1707, Zarate is a family-owned estate that has been tending to the vineyards for the past seven generations. Zarate is in fact the de facto pioneer for Albariño as we know it today, having started production in the early fifties. Since 2000 vintage, current owner Eulogio Pomares has been dedicated to the Albariño variety. His sole aim is to naturally farm and care for the old vines. Zarate handcrafts dry, mineral, refreshing wines with ample capacity for cellar aging.
