Originally known as Vin de Mauves, mentioned in Victor Hugo’s book Les Misérables, the wine from Saint Joseph was a favorite in the French court of Louis XII (1498–1515). Located in the northern region of the Saint Joseph, Domaine Flacher was created in 1806. Gilles Flacher’s white Saint Joseph “Cuvee Loess” is made on a granite plateau composed of loess (granite sediment formed by the accumulation of wind-blown sand, silt, and clay).
