Description: Proprietor Giampaolo Motta is best described as a free-spirited renegade. Motta’s wines reflect a passion for Bordeaux, a region he first discovered when he spent time in France as a student. After spending time in Bordeaux, Motta left his family’s successful leather business behind in Naples and headed north to work in Chianti where he learned the art of winemaking. In 1992 Motta finally acquired La Massa winery hidden amongst the Chianti Classico hills of Panzano in the prestigious “Conca d’Oro” (golden basin). A blend of classic Tuscan Sangiovese and the noble grapes of Bordeaux – Cabernet and Merlot, “La Massa” crystalizes his dream of Bordeaux in Tuscany with lovely ripe, dark cherry and tobacco aromas, great structure and velvety texture. A great Super-Tuscan wine without the high price.
