Aligote is one of two white varietals grown in Burgundy (the other, Chardonnay). It is known to exhibit a clean, fruity palate with mineral and refreshing acidity. Pierre Morey’s version is considered one of Burgundy’s finest, with ripe fruit and hints of honey.
Pierre Morey is considered one of Burgundy’s finest and also one of its most prolific vignerons. In 1971, while in his early 20’s, Pierre inherited the family estate which encompassed 19 owned acres and metayeur responsibilities for superbly placed 1er Cru and Grand Cru vineyards belonging to Domaine des Comtes Lafon. As his metayage contracts expired, Pierre took on more outside responsibility and in 1990, was appointed winemaker at the venerable Domaine Leflaive where he produced stunning, benchmark white Burgundies for 20 years. Upon his retirement, he and his daughter Anne founded Morey-Blanc, a negociant company. Pierre’s eponymous 27 acre domaine includes holdings in Monthélie, Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault and the vineyards are farmed using biodynamic practices. At Morey-Blanc, Pierre and Anne share responsibilities and have slowly and carefully expanded the portfolio. They currently produce wines from some of the most respected vineyards in the Cote d’Or, including Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Aloxe-Corton, Meursault Charmes and Saint-Aubin. Production remains small, highly selective and reasonably priced.
