Egly-Ouriet has been and always will be a excellent grower champange that focuses on making terroir-driven Champagnes. This means unique, elegant styles that can not be duplicated outside of the growing area. The Grand Cru Brut Tradition is the workhorse of the domaine as well as the flag bearer of the Egly-Ouriet style. Old 35 to 40 year old vines and using mature reserve wines as a base creates rustic, earthy wines with immense atmospheric pressure and character.
Muscular, full-bodied style that reveals richness and finesse throughout the length of the palate. Spent 3 years on its lees before disgorgement (disgorged in July 2008). Francis Egly and his father, Michel makes wines at their estate and vineyards in Ambonnay but also owns vineyards in Verzenay and Bouzy. These vineyards are of excellent pedigree and produce some of the finest Champagnes in Reims. Montagne de Reims is a plateau and one of the coolest zones in Champagne, idea for Pinot Noir.
