From the tiny berries of the Vignoles grape, a hybrid invented by a French scientist for American viticulture in the early 19th century, this wine opens with notes of green apple, honeysuckle, and tropical essence. On the palate this wine has an off-dry richness and minerality that glides across the palate with racy acidity. In 1988, after nearly 37 years of growing and selling grapes, the Stamp family founded Lakewood Vineyards winery and began producing wines from their sprawling vineyards by Seneca Lake. They practice very careful management of the vines and land, with a focus on sustainable practices, including composting, mulching and cover crops.
Food pairing: Asian and spicy foods, pates, fruit salad.
