The appellation Pessac-Leognan was established in 1986 because it had long been the view their vineyards are superior to the region of Graves. The white wines have become increasingly famous and the new appellation covers 55 estates, including all those listed as classified growths since 1959. Les Hauts de Smith is the second label of the famous Chateau Smith-Haut Lafitte owned by Daniel and Florence Cathiard. The care they take to produce their white Grand Vin is reflected in the lots that produce Les Hauts de Smith.
