Region: France> Champagne> Valee de la Marne.
Grape: 75% Pinot Meunier and 25% Pinot (Blanc de Noirs)
Notes: 10 g/l dosage, Disgorged April 09. ND.
Clean, light nose of white flower, asian spices and ginger. Deliciously harmonious palate. Superb velvety texture.
The Duc de Romet is assembled by Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy from purchased grapes from many of his small-producer colleagues. This is a ND (Negociant Distributeur), which means this is a blend from the different growers in the Vallee de la Marne who do not produce their own Champagne. The grapes are sent to the local co-op where they are fermented and then Jean-Baptiste does the final blend.
The vineyards are entirely from the village of Vandieres which is along the Marne River, a few villages west of Cumieres. Vandieres has the same rating as Merfy, where Chartogne-Taillet is located, but the parcels here are situated in a southeastern facing amphitheater around the village, much like Oger, which allows the grapes to become very ripe.
The last point is incredibly important. Many forks may be quick to point out that this wine is not a Grower Champagne and this it is contrary to our purported ideology. We wish to represent wines that express terroir. That's it. It just so happens that most of terroir expressive wines in Champagne are made by RM (Recoltant Manipulant - Champagne made by the own grower). This particular wine come from a single village, thus it is of a single terroir. It's not about who owns what, and it's never was. It's about what's in the bottle. ND.
Food pairing: Very versatile. Oddly good with rich seafood such as sea urchin.
