Godello is arguably one of Spain’s most noble white grape varietals. Gold in color, good mineral with clean, layered flavors of citrus, ripe melon, fennel. It was once on the verge of extinction when the phylloxera pest wiped-out all grapevines in Europe in around 1910. With his determined passion, Horacio Fernandez, owner of Godeval Winery resurrected the all but forgotten ancient varietal in 1986. His winery is situated in the medieval monastery in Veldeorras Valley of the Galicia region in the northwestern corner of Spain. Stone rooms that once housed gallant Templar Knights are now home to a state of the art wine cellar. The slate soil lend a unique minerality to this crips white wine.
